What is Draymond Green’s injury?
Green was diagnosed with a left lateral ankle sprain, the Warriors announced at Media Day.
Green said he twisted his ankle after landing on Jonathan Kuminga’s foot during a pickup game.
“I feel good. I feel like I’m improving fast. I’m a pretty fast healer,” Green told the media. “Didn’t quite foresee this coming into the season, but everything happens for a reason. We have a great performance team and I’ll be in even better shape by the time I start playing, whenever that is.”
When asked if this is the worst ankle injury he’s ever dealt with, Green said, “No, I’ve had some bad ones. It could have been as bad and I thought it was going to be, especially initially. It’s tough but it’s fine.”
Green, 33, is entering his 12th NBA season. This offseason, he signed a four-year, $100 million contract with the Warriors that includes a player option for the 2026-27 season.
Green played in 73 games last year, averaging 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.8 blocks to help the Warriors reach the Western Conference Semifinals.
How long is Draymond Green out?
At Media Day on Monday (Oct. 2), the Warriors said that Green would be re-evaluated in two weeks.
On Tuesday, Oct. 17, Golden State said Green would be re-evaluated on Sunday, Oct. 22, just two days before Opening Night.
Green has missed all three of the Warriors’ preseason games thus far, but he has been cleared to “begin light on-court workouts (shooting drills, etc.) and his return to full team practice and scrimmages will be based on his continued progress,” per the team’s release.
